Message Hi Tony,

The only thing I'm not sure about is the trip up there in June. Dee is working on putting that together and there are supposed to be a few guys wanting tuning as well so I believe the airfare for that trip will be split up across those who are having tuning done during that trip. Everything else is kosher.

I have watched PINKS a few times - mostly interested in knowing what kind of ET and MPH the cars were running. But I do recall each of the drivers had at least one person who was operating as their tuner/inspector, etc. - to aid in keeping the mechanical/electrical bits in check. I would really like to be that guy during the event. Is this possible? My concern is that as the tuner of the car, I will be carrying a huge responsibility. I dont want to see a situation where some mechanical or electrical component failure results in a loss. The race outcome is influenced by how the car performs as well as how you can drive her - I want to make sure that if I am sticking my neck out there that the outcome of the race will depend 99% on your driving abilities - in my mind, the car must absolutely perform flawlessly else I risk public humiliation in our Z co mmunity - trying to recover from something like that may be nearly impossible.

I'm confident in my abilities in tuning these cars - I have tuned over 300 different Zs and have a flawless success record. I know the Z's powerplant and EFI system almost intimately - where the bottlenecks are, where potential problems could arise, and where the thresholds of peak, safe performance are. But I really need to have my hands in there through the entire process - from the initial pre-dyno inspection, the dyno tune, post-dyno street testing and program refinement, to the night before the event to run the car and get her further dialed in to performance on the track, and through the event itself. I'm fully "IN" on providing all of my time to make this happen in each of these steps and I hope you can see why they really aren't options in my mind as there is just too much on the line for us both.

A question: do the racers REALLY have to give up their vehicles if they lose or is that just a part of the show? I'm expecting that this really is the case but I need to know. I expect that from start to end I will have a significant amount of time involved as well as the risk to my reputation - we both have a lot to lose if things go amuck. I know other vendors have put up many items to support you in this event but none of them carry any significant risk for damage to their reputations. For all intents and purposes, and by no offense, my reputation is worth the entire value of your car many times over. As the tuner, I have to tell you that this proposition scares the you-know-what out of me and at the same time I see it as a great opportunity to help the image of my business - which of those two it ends up being is heavily dependent on the out come of the race. My business is my livelihood and this will be a big gamble as I dont have full control over the variables as essentially half lay in your hands so I am counting on your abilities just as much as my own. :) You are risking your vehicle and I am risking my reputation - both of which have real and significant value. My presence through this process is just as important as your presence in the driver's seat at the event.

So, your thoughts? :)

-Ash
